EGR delete

Rough idling, a fault code pointing at the EGR valve, or the car dropping into limp mode? We diagnose the cause and delete EGR systems on qualifying vehicles, at your home or workplace.

What's actually going wrong

Your EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve recycles some exhaust gas back into the engine to cut emissions. Over time it clogs with carbon, and a sticking or blocked valve is one of the more common causes of diesel running problems. Signs to look out for:

  • Rough or uneven idling
  • Reduced power, or the car going into limp mode
  • A fault code specifically pointing at the EGR valve or its circuit
  • Increased smoke or a noticeable drop in fuel economy
Heavy carbon build-up inside an engine intake manifold

What we do about it

We diagnose whether the valve genuinely needs deleting or would be better served by a clean and repair, and explain what we find before any work starts. On qualifying vehicles, we can delete the EGR system on site.

Diagnosis before delete.

We won't push a delete when a clean and repair is the better fix.

Frequently asked questions

Is an EGR delete legal?

Not on a vehicle used on public roads, because the vehicle no longer meets its emissions standards. An EGR delete is for off-road and competition vehicles. For a road vehicle we'll recommend a clean or repair instead.

What are the signs of a failing EGR valve?

Rough idling, reduced power, limp mode, or a specific EGR fault code are the most common signs. Increased smoke and worse fuel economy can also point to it.

Is EGR delete the same as EGR blanking?

Not quite. An EGR delete is a software change that switches the valve off in the ECU. EGR blanking fits a metal plate that physically blocks the valve. The two are often done together, because blanking the valve without the software change usually brings up a warning light. We do both, and we'll tell you what your vehicle needs.

How much does an EGR delete cost?

Every job's priced on your vehicle and what's actually involved, so we don't quote a blanket figure here — but the quote itself is always free, there's no call-out charge, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. Call us or send a quote request for an accurate price. Get a Free Quote
